Preparing for Postpartum
Postpartum is often called the fourth trimester.
It is a time of huge change, and while it can be beautiful, it can also feel overwhelming if you are not prepared for what life looks like after birth. Your body is healing, your baby is adjusting to the world, and everyone in your home is finding a new rhythm.
Postpartum preparation is not about creating a perfect plan. It is about thinking through what will make life easier and more peaceful when you bring your baby home. That might mean setting up your space so you can rest and recover, having nourishing meals ready, or figuring out who you can call for help when you need it. It also means talking through what support you want, how you want visitors to show up, and what boundaries will help you feel cared for instead of overwhelmed.
When we work together, I help you think through those details before your baby arrives so you can step into postpartum with realistic expectations and a plan that supports your recovery. If you are using my birth doula package, you will already have two postpartum home visits included. The first happens around twenty-four hours after birth, and the second a few days later. These visits are a chance to check in on your healing, feeding, and rest, and to make sure you have what you need as you settle in at home.
If you decide you would like more care beyond that, we can build a postpartum plan together that fits your family’s needs. That might include help with infant feeding, emotional support, light household care, newborn soothing, or even overnight care so you can get some rest. My goal is always to make postpartum feel less like something you have to get through and more like a season you can actually be present in.
If you would like extra support during this transition, I would love to connect and talk about how we can prepare together.
